BOYCOT IAMS FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY

An undercover PETA Investigation update. WATCH THE VIDEO. Scroll down for pictures of Iams dogs kept in cages 24/7.

WASHINGTON,DC (RUSHPRNEWS) AUGUST 31,2008–The U.S. Department of Agriculture has released an official complaint stating that the contract laboratory investigated by PETA in 2002 and 2003, which was employed by pet-food manufacturer Iams, “has shown a lack of good faith.”

WATCH THE VIDEO.

The government complaint alleges that the following violations, among others, were documented by government inspectors at the contract laboratory from 2002 to 2005:

Failure to provide pain relief to sheep used in experiments that caused pain or distress
Failure to ensure that personnel were trained to perform experiments on animals
Failure to provide veterinary care and to observe animals daily
Failure to properly ventilate housing facilities for dogs and cats
Failure to house cats with a sufficient number of litterboxes and resting surfaces
Failure to keep animal-housing facilities clean and in good repair, resulting in injuries
Failure to maintain comfortable temperatures in animal-housing facilities
Failure to provide animals with sufficient space

Mas
Christmas
The last three letters of his lab identification are “mas,” thus his name. But his life is far from a celebration. PETA’s investigator discovered that his ears had been allowed to reach a level of such extreme filth that they required medication. She noticed the problem only by giving Christmas hands-on attention which he had never previously received. His feet have developed sores from years of living on cement and slatted metal.
Fifi
Fifi
Fifi has been used in Iams studies for at least six years. She hides in the back of her cage constantly.
Maddog
Maddog
MadDog is frustrated by his life in a 3-foot-by-3-foot cage. He often pushes his food bowl onto the floor to get attention but it hasn’t done any good. He has been caged for Iams metabolic studies for six years. His voice was taken from him surgically during PETA’s investigation.
Maisy
Maisy
Maisy loves attention but rarely gets it. It’s even harder now that she’s been debarked and has no voice. Maisy has been caged since September 18, 1997.
Maxine
Maxine
Maxine hides in the back of her steel cage and in the gutter of her cement kennel. Maxine has trouble eating when she is locked in the metabolic cage. She was surgically debarked along with 18 other Iams dogs during PETA’s investigation. Iams did nothing to stop Maxine or the others from losing their voices.
Mickey
Mickey
Mickey has spent almost her entire life in Iams metabolic studies. She becomes extremely depressed when taken from her cement kennel to be put into the steel metabolic cage.
No Name
No Name
This Iams dog has no name—only a laboratory identification number. She lives in a dark building with no access to the outdoors or natural light, along with approximately 100 other dogs. Because she has no resting board and is not removed from the cage during cleaning time, she often is forced to sit or lie on wet concrete. She is lonely, sweet, and depressed.
Sally
Sally
Sally is extremely timid. She was born on April 10, 1996, and has spent the last six years trying to sleep and walk on cold wide-slatted floors. Many dogs injure themselves when their legs become stuck in between the slats.

Red Cliff

John Woo’s long-anticipated epic movie Red Cliff opens this week in Asia. It’s been a long, hard road for the project from the start, filled with major cast dropouts (then drop-ins, then dropouts again), a massive ballooning budget, and even a death on the set. But the movie has finally arrived, and according to the one person I know who’s actually seen it, it’s “spectacular.” Could this be John Woo’s return to glory? The world will soon find out: ‘Red Cliff’ ready for its closeup.

Red Cliff, adapted from China’s classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, is over four hours long. It’s one of those big-ass costume action spectacles. For Asian territories, the movie is being split into two parts, with the first released yesterday in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. Audiences outside of Asia will get a single movie, expected to be 2 1/2 hours long. We’ll get to see it stateside here in January.

The story is set in the final days of the Han Dynasty, in the year 208, covering the war that established the Three Kingdoms period, when China had three rulers. The movie stars Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen and Lin Chiling. Yeah, it’s a big deal. Watch this 9-minute promo reel above to get a glimpse of the scale and scope of the production. Sorry, no English subtitles. But you get the idea.

My new iPhone will cost how much? Thanks a lot, AT&T

Man, I’m pretty steamed about the just-revealed details of the iPhone 3G price plan — and if you’re an existing AT&T customer, you should be too. After all the fuss about the $199 iPhone, it turns that those of us already on AT&T plans are going to have to pay twice as much — namely, the existing iPhone price of $399.

Not surprisingly, I’m less-than-thrilled about this news. It’s starting to feel like everything after the announcement of the iPhone 3G at WWDC has been a string of “Wait, but there’s a catch …” First, AT&T said it’s increasing the price of iPhone’s data plan by $10 a month. Next, MG Siegler noticed the real ripoff: You’ll need to pay extra for text messaging.

Still, those announcements fell under the heading of “annoying but fair.” Basically, they seemed like AT&T’s way to recoup its iPhone subsidy by charging its customers extra rates. This news, however, means that people like me — AT&T customers who haven’t bought an iPhone yet — get the worst of both worlds; we lose out on the discount, and we get to pay the increased rates. It’s like I’ll be subsidizing AT&T’s efforts to bring customers over from other carriers. Um, thanks?

So you’re probably thinking, “If you don’t like it, why are you buying an iPhone?” Good point. In fact, I’m so peeved about this, that I’m going to boycott the iPhone. For a day.

Hulk

Opening night of the new Incredible Hulk. It was def. a lot better than the old one. Only critique i can say is that the movie was a rollercoaster. Slow, Fast, Slow Fast.. too little action in my opinion. I am pretty excited that Marvel has started to link all the new Marvel movies together beginning with Iron Man. Tony stark makes a guest appearance in this new Hulk series.. only makes me think what Marvel has up their sleeve in terms of future Marvel Superhero movies.

Upcoming Marvel Movies

PUNISHER 2: A script is finished. They did bad in the box-office, because of KILL BILL 2, said Arad.
SUB MARINER: “It’s STAR WARS, under water. It’s our version of the TERMINATOR.”
LUKE CAGE: They wanted Jamie Foxx for the project, before his Oscar win. Now he’s not sure if they could get him, but said they might find “the next Jamie Foxx”.
DAREDEVIL 2: “Daredevil’s going to take a rest.”

2010

April 30th: Iron Man 2

June 4th: Thor (directed by Matthew Vaughn)

http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/household/cellphones.asp (Classification) click link to explain all mentioned below

For all the folks with cell phones. (This should be printed and kept in your car, purse, and wallet. Good information to have with you.)

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave
emergencies.

Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency
tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST
Emergency

The Emergency Number wo rldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find
Yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an
Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to
Establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112
can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND
Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy
someday . Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys
In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on
their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot
From your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock
button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will
unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no
object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has
the other ‘remote’ for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Editor’s Note < B>: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked
Our car over a cell phone!’

THIRD
Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the
keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument
will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.

FOURTH
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following
Digits on your ph one: *#06#. A 15-digit code will appear on the
screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it
somewhere safe.

When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider
and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset
so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally
useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know
that whoever stole it can’t use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there
would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
And Finally….

FIFTH
Free Directory Service for Cells

Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for
411 information calls when they don’t have to. Most of us do not
carry a telephone directory in our vehicle , which makes this situation
even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information
O ption, simply dial: (800)FREE411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

What: Hotel Suite
Where: Beverly Wilshire Beverly Hills, A Four Seasons Hotel
Price: $7,500 per night
Justification: none

Richard’s Take:
When my parents endeavored to sell the rights to my biopic on the day I was born they only had one producer in mind. Then they forgot his name and retired to the solarium
for Gin Rickeys with Jessica Tandy. While the name of this producer slipped their mind as did their ability to drive and recognize basic shapes and patterns, they knew they wanted that swarthy hair-pirate George Clooney to play the lead role. At the time, Clooney was holed up in the Penthouse Suite of the Beverly Wilshire. And oh how I remember that curious cuddle puddle I witnessed from the silken floors of that Penthouse suite between Clooney, Mother Nouveau and a caramel towel-folder named Espernaza. I’m sure you are asking “but Richard you were so young, how could you remember anything?” Because I’m amazing, dear reader. Utterly amazing.
