THE LANDING (10/3)

When you think of the US Census, what really comes to your mind? To many Americans the Census may not seem as exciting as say – the Presidential Elections. And honestly speaking, the thought of the Census doesn’t exactly make me personally jump up and down in delight either!
However, an interesting and very noteworthy part of the Presidential Elections last year was the largest turnout in youth/young-adult voters. And although President Obama’s fresh campaigning skills and his open-arms approach to new and social media forms contributed greatly to his overall popularity in this demographic, that alone cannot be attributed as the only reason why young Americans responded so well. Rock the Vote 2008’s efforts can certainly be seen as a large contributing factor in the booming popularity of the elections last year. This is a clear indicator in the power of American youth.
With Twitter, Facebook, and other forms of social media, now even the government needs to get with the program! The US Census 2010 has taken a similar approach and one of the first events to showcase this fresh new approach will be taking place this Friday – September 18, 2010 – at Opera-Crimson Nightclub. Attendees that night will be able to find out more about the Census 2010 and even walk away with free giveaways!
Just the last elections demonstrate a crucial turning tide in our youth’s attitude and level of involvement – as a majority of American youth were unaware and apathetic to voting prior to 2008, the outcome of the Census will also weigh heavy on our own hands because it only comes every 10 years! Having the most accurate count of Asian Americans residing in California will mean we can have a bigger slice of the $400 billion pie the government issues in funds based on the Census every year.
Having a little more for our state alone can directly translate into lower education fees and possibly even a cheaper sales tax (you must agree – 10% is just too ridiculous). Not to mention – it is no secret that our state is going through a major budget crisis. What we do this time around to participate in the Census can make or break the next 10 years for all of us!
So come show your support for the Census 2010 by coming out to Opera-Crimson this Friday night! Not that you need more than the usual onslaught of good reasons to party it up at one of the most happening Friday night event in Hollywood, but tonight you can give yourself additional props that your crew’s night out will also be in support of a good cause!
Stay tuned for more updates by following the Census on Twitter (@CACensus2010) and Facebook (2010 Census). Check back on our affiliate PLAN C GROUP’s blog and twitter (@PLANC_President) to find out about local events sponsored by the Census as well!
See you out tonight at Opera-Crimson! and remember – the US 2010 Census – it’s in OUR hands!
