GLAM Holiday PSA: Introducing the DD iphone Application – a One-Step Program to Responsible Partying
Posted by Alice Lieu on December 1, 2009Eggnog and holiday cheer abounds and more than one of us will find ourselves a little tipsier than we had meant to be on more than one occasion this holiday season. But as the smart lil GLAM minx knows, one ought never to drink and drive – because after all you want to safely get home from Opera Flash Fridays so that you can hit up the Landing at AREA the next evening out!
Never fear! for – as Apple Links reports, “the newly released ‘Designated Driver’ iPhone Application allows a text to be sent to five or more friends with a push of a button to request a ride when too impaired to drive. Text message includes a map of person’s exact location to easily be located and picked up.”
AppSolutions, Inc. partner Oliver Nam explains, “You choose five or more friends from your address book to serve as your ‘designated drivers.’ Later, when you tap the ‘I Need a Ride Home” button, everyone on your list gets a text message – complete with your location and an embedded Google Maps link. There is also a big yellow Taxi button that can connect you to local cab companies – just in case you can’t find a friend to give you a ride.”
He confided that, “the hard part to this app was the five simultaneous texts to the chose ‘designated drivers’ – but we figured it out and it works.”
AppSolutions, Inc. plans to keep the application free for the current time being – especially with the upcoming holidays just around the corner.
Designated Driver (DD) is available for download in the US, UK and Canada for the iPhone and iPod Touch. For more information about DD, please visit: http://designateddriverapp.com.
