Settle down fellas, You Say Party! We Say Die!’s latest release, XXXX, isn’t about to shift your midnight internet viewing habits from your Macbook to your MP3. There’s actually very little in this album that’s X-rated (YSP!WSD! are Canadian after all). The subject people is LOVE – sit down boys the emergency exits are sealed. But there’s nothing sappy here, frontwoman Becky Nincovic howls, teases and gently steers us to dance away all that blows about love.

Sure, there’s pain & longing, “when the morning comes and I can’t make my body rise” or “my heart needs a love dance” but it’s not all hopeless, Nincovic quickly and defiantly reaffirms “there’s love within my heart”. Ultimately, all the anger, self-doubt and heartbreak in XXXX is accompanied and upended by fervent beliefs that love, the enduring variant, will triumph.

How are they live? Dunno. Visa issues have kept YSP!WSD! from performing in the U.S. Fortunately, that ghastly business has been settled and they’ll be at Echoplex Saturday so check them out and bring a little XXXX with you -
